  Dr. Shapiro was professional, informative, and most importantly for me, a highly skilled surgeon. I went to him after having done a year of physical therapy on my shoulder. It had become clear to me and the physical therapist that the non-surgical approach might not be enough to fix the problem with my range of motion and inflammation. My PT recommended Dr. Shapiro, telling me that he wouldn't opt for surgery unless absolutely necessary. I had an MRI done, and it showed that indeed I needed surgery--due to the nature of the injury, PT alone would not have remedied the problem (I needed a biceps tenodesis). The procedure was successful, and I'm thrilled with Dr. Shapiro's work. By the way, for some, this might not matter, but the scar from the larger incision is looking very nice because of his detailed work. I couldn't be happier.

  I had my shoulder joint replaced, as well as a couple rotator cuff tears repaired, right side. Having never had a joint replaced, I was more than a little skeptical of the whole idea. But faced with the realization it would "never get better on its own", I decided to have the surgery. The outcome has been way better than I expected. I am currently 9 weeks post surgery. I was never in any real pain the entire time. It ached a good deal, but no real pain. I did take Ibuprofen and occasionally a pain killer for comfort. I started driving at 2 1/2 weeks. I currently have most all of my motion regained in that shoulder thanks to the necessary physical therapy. Dr Shapiro did a fantastic job explaining the details of the surgery, what I could expect post surgery,..... and admittedly, relieving my fears. Currently, I still have occasional aches and minor motion restrictions that will subside with time and exercise. I am very glad I had the surgery and would not hesitate to recommend the procedure with Dr Shapiro. I also have to say my overnight stay in Swedish Hospital Ballard was actually very pleasant. The nurses were very friendly, always making sure I was comfortable, and the food was remarkable. Thank you Dr Shapiro.
